India Inside
In August 2015, India Inside by composer Gennady Rovner was released. The record is based on a symphonic work in five movements, each unique and utterly unexpected despite the thematic direction of the title India Inside.
This is perhaps the first time that classical symphonic piano music has been combined with traditional Hindustani musical instruments and the authentic sounds of life, the sound of Indian cities. This unique symbiosis was designed to remind people of the interpenetration of cultures and the absence of global borders in the humanitarian community. It captures the work a genuinely exceptional cultural event of its time.
The composer's choice to focus on India was not accidental. Indian culture is simultaneously the embodiment of a remarkable authenticity to its historical context and, at the same time, an incredible diversity of various cultural elements that it has absorbed over the millennia of its existence. This unique flavor serves as an attraction and inspiration to those who have managed to experience and understand Indian culture.
Special mention should be made of the composition of the participants of the India Inside project. The CD was recorded in Russia, India, and the UK. The musicians from Russia's leading symphony orchestras created the album: the Russian National Orchestra, the Tchaikovsky Symphony Orchestra, and the Symphony Orchestra of Bolshoi Theater conducted by Konstantin Khvatynets.
The project was sound-produced by the legendary Haydn Bendall, who has worked with Cliff Richard, Paul McCartney, Pet Shop Boys, Andrea Bocelli, Sarah Brightman, and many others.
The recording featured Trevor Barry, a bass player who worked with Freddie Mercury, Celine Dion, Phil Collins; Ian Thomas, a drummer who worked with Paul McCartney, Sting, and Eric Clapton; Steve Pearce, Double Bass, who worked with Van Morrison, Stevie Wonder, Madonna, and Elton John.
The artists of Bollywood music represented the Indian side of the project: Aishwarya Majmudar, winner of Star Voice of India, the rising star of Indian popular music (vocals), Gaurav Chopra (vocals), Sunil Das (sitar), Mukesh Sharma (sarod), Ronu Majmudar (bansuri), Sridhar Parthasarthyand Rajesh (mridangam and Kanjira), Madhav Pawar (tabla).
The documentary India Inside, directed by Alexander Smirnov was released simultaneously.
